Masters: Does it Count As Grand Slam? by Alexey Nikolov.
Tiger Woods victory came as no surprise for anyone, although it lacked the brilliance of his three previoius major victories. Although it’s doubtful whether Tiger now has completed The Grand Slam in a year (most critics say it should be during tyhe same calendar year to count), he still became the first golfer ever to own all four crowns at the same time. David Duval (2nd) and Phil Mickelson (3rd) keep competing for the title neither or them wants: the best player in the world never to win a major tournament.

Butch, 57, is a son of a professsional golfer who won Masters in 1948. List of his students also include celebrities and even king Hassan II of Marocco. His love of the game is so overwhelming that he claims he would have to steal food from stores if the job of a golf pro is ever outlawed - as there’s nothing else he can imagine himself doing.

The Ghost Of Miracle Hill by Ron Whitten.
On October 7, 1965 Bob Mitera aced (or at least he claims he did so) the 400-meter long par-4 hole, which is beleived to be the longest hole-in-one in the history of golf. However, there were numerous doubts voiced about whether that drive really did find the hole. Mitera’s life did take an unfavourable turn after that, at least golf wise. He refuses to discuss this story with journalists. His ace was recognized officially by the Guinness Book only in 1968, and even after that there were skeptics who claimed such feat was unlikely. Nevertheless, Miracle Hill GC has a plaque commemorating the famous shot and sells lots of souvenirs. Mitera gets nothing from this.

Yon In Sun and Im Ki Yun (Korea); Issa Malsagov, Sergey Ovsiannikov, Malhaz Gorgisheli and Roman Avetisov (Russia).

Small Matters Is What Matters by Sergey Baranchukov.
A letter from Director of Golf of the "Dunes" - the first golf club in St. Petersburg and a General Director of the Green Horizon course construction and maintainance company. Having spent eight years in the emerging Russian golf business and having started with no golfing background, Baranchukov is eager to share his experience with the Russian golf enthusiasts. According to him, not everything you can read in an American book is applicable in Russia today. There is no potential to build public golf courses yet. The developer must be prepared to see out of 100 people who initiallly expressed their interest in joining only 10 to eventually join. When planning the course construction Baranchukov recommends to make sure that designer and contractor are not the same company or close partners. He believes that it’s possible to find a Russian company to build a lower-scale course, while for the championship course you have to contract a Western firm.

Konstantin Borovoy: The Only Person You Can Deceive In Golf Is Yourself by Ivan Dorogomilov.
An exclusive interview with one of Russia’s most prominent business and political figures. At the age of 52 he returned to puiblishing business and now co-owns together with the American Chamber of Commerce a monthly magazine in Russian named America. Borovoy tried to hit the ball first in 1994 in Singapour, but got really interested in 1998 when he spent a month on the Hilton Head Island together with the family. While 99 per cent of his American and European business partners are golfers, in Russia the game’s future lies with the young businessmen who need contacts. The way to bring them to golf is to make clubs more open. Some politicians do play but won’t admit that publicly as this would contradict their communist image.

No Dessert At The Desert Classic by Fyodor Gogolev.
Exclusive coverage by the Golf Digest Russia’s Editor of the Desert Classic. One of the most prestigious events of the European Tour this year was held at the Emirates Golf Club and could boast the best golfer in the world in the starting list. Tiger Woods’ first visit to the Middle East made a sensation. 40 thousand tickets for the event were sold in no time. Tiger enjoyed the warmest possible reception that included visit of Sheikh Mohammad Al Maktum’s stables, and even met a young stallion named Tiger after him. The tennis tournament which took place at Dubai at the same time was completely overshadowed by golf event. The entire entouorage at Dubai is unique. During four days of competition Woods was leading the race but sank the ball on the 72nd hole of the tournament and tied for the second, losing two strokes to Thomas Bjorn. The Dane got special treatment by the public as he plays out of another local club Dubai Creek where he spends winters practicing. The editors wish to express special thanks to The Department of Tourism and Commercial Marketing of the Government of Dubai, Mr. Khamad Bin Mejren, Mr. Sergey Kanaev and Mrs. Tatyana Lagutina.
