A Beam of Sunlight In The Realm of Rain
By Alexey Nilolov
Incessant havy rains seems to become a kind of tradition for the most important golf tournament in the Russian schedule - the BMW Russian Open. Meanwile Moscow deludge didn’t prevent Englishman Gary Emerson from winning his first European Tour title. The BMW Russian Open is the tournament which has a dual ranking status (counting towards European Tour & Challenge Tour). In 2006 the tournament is expected to become the European Tour event.
Unfortunately, all the Russian players - Alexander Gruzdov, Dmitry Vinogradov and Andrey Pavlov - who were the 1-st, 2-nd and 3-rd, respectively, at the Russian Amateur Open Championship 2004 - failed to make the cut.
Saturday’s round was suspended due to incessant rainfall at Le Meridien Moscow Country Club and some of the players had to play almost two full rounds on Sunday. On the Sunday night the greenkeepers team of Le Meridien Moscow Country Club made a great job preparing the course after heavy rainfalls.

Finding The Zone
By Jaime Diaz
The mind can help us play better golf if we happen to get in the "zone" - an elevated state of self-fulfillment free of intentional cognition. We never succeed till we stop thinking about the manner of our performance. If a player manages to reach the point where he can act reflexively and trust his intuitive mind without having to reason about the best swing technique, he is on his way to the zone. When a great player releases the inner force within himself, he is able to meet any challenge to conquer golf.
Players often get lost in striving to hit every shot perfectly, so they can also get lost in criticizing themselves for not being in the zone all the time. There are sport psychologists who believe they can teach their clients to get in the zone on demand, or very close to it; while the others suppose the zone happens when it happens and if this grace is given to you, you become "different" - unbelievably powerful and mighty - it is impossible to put this state in words, because in the zone action always louder than words. The zone deals with the entire mental capacity. The most important condition for entering the zone is a combination of a particularly challenging task and highly developed skills to fulfil the task. Without the enjoyment of play and without high challenge and perfect skills you never get the zone. Those who once experienced this feeling have the balance of being extremely concentrated with the ability to relax and let themselves perform at just the right time.
But even with a great variety of scientific researches in reaching the zone, getting to that coveted destination is the most personal of journeys.

It’s A Wonderful Life
By Ron Kaspriske
The interview features Chris DiMarco, a tipical PGA Tour player of these days. He has struggled for his PGA Tour card but now he is ranked 21-st in the world. He is a good father of three and has a loving wife who is his real soulmate.
Chris DiMarco admits that he doesn’t strive to play for history, and winning major championships is not his obsession. He is quite satisfied with making cuts and occasional winnings - he is a tree-time winner on the PGA Tour. One should put his ego on the top and give up a lot of pleasures to reach the level of Vijay Singh. But DiMarco is sure that life is so wonderful and full of fun that he finds it impossible to devote himself entirely to golf.
And yet he has probably made a history this year in the Masters by helping Phil Mickelson to read that winning putt for Phil’s first major title.

PGA Championship’2004
By Alexey Nikolov
Vijay Singh broke through for his third major victory - PGA Championship’2004 - and is likely to secure for himself the PGA Tour Player of the Year Award which turned out to be so elusive last season.
Singh’s stony countenance never let him down and even after shooting 76 in the final round - winner’s worst final round score since 1938 - he got into play off and made his first birdie of a day on the first extra hole to beat Justin Leonard and Chris DiMarco.
It’s common knowledge that victors don’t have to justify themselves, so Singh’s success and his way to the top are not judged. He has announced that he stops chasing Tiger Woods for the world golf ranking. And now he seems to enjoy his game without being worried about who is No.1 - and he is playing even better.

On The Fairways of Three Centuries
By Fedor Gogolev
During the whole history of mankind people have been dreaming of inventing a time machine to travel from the past to the future. The head of tourist company Swiss House, Gennady Gabrielian, arranged a magic voyage for golf writers to the country famous worldwide for its banks and watches. This fantastic travel through ages involved a trip to splendid Swiss golf courses - Golf Club Patriziale Ascona, Golf Cerre Losone and Engadin Golf (Zuoz-Madulain & Samedan). The Golf Digest (Russia) Editor, an 18-handicapper, became so enchanted by the opportunity to travel through the 19-th century to the current year that even his golf balls lost in thick rough of Alpine meadows couldn’t hurt his feelings of an avid golfer.
